Moving Closer to Defining San Diego Civic Solutions
April
12, 2004
Dear
Civic Solutions Team:
At
our last meeting we were very successful in moving closer
to an identity for San Diego Civic Solutions. For those
of you who were not there, what happened was that we
shared our "what we love about San Diego"
list. This set the stage for a discussion about how
what we loved really reflected our values and what if
San Diego Civic Solutions worked on looking at issues
and projects in our region with our values rather than
always looking at them as they relate to economics.
In light of the fact that our unscientific survey featured
overwhelming support of San Diego's "outdoor activities,
scenery, nature and climate" as our top reason
for loving San Diego, what projects and issues could
we get behind to support this value and represent something
for the "good of all". One idea that has emerged
is the concept to create a San Diego Urban Canyonlands
Park. If structured properly it wouldn't require huge
amount of public funds and would be something that makes
a statement about our commitment to our values, our
unique region and our status as one of America's Creative
Cultures. Below are a couple of articles written by
Richard Louv which add to this discussion. Please read
and come to our next meeting on May 6th ready to discuss.
This is only an example of what we might do. If you
have other ideas please feel free to pitch them.
Sincerely, Sandy, Mike, Tom, Mary
